My Job in the Hothouse and Professional Courtesy 2002-06-14 || 10:58 a.m.
Ok. I FINALLY have internet at home, so you'll get more updates now. I did finally get a job, but I don't like it. It's warehouse work, which I have done before, but I was hoping for something a little more intellectually stimulating. I do get to talk, but most of my coworkers speak limited English. I speak limited Spanish. This gets in the way of good conversation. As does the type of work. I have to pay close attention to what I'm doing, but what I do (pulling orders for apartment complexes) is SOOO boring. (I have, however, learned many new dirty homosexual references. This is NOT, by ANY stretch of the imagination, a politically correct workplace. They also whistle at any and every woman who comes in.) This place is also not air-conditioned, and I live in Southeast Texas. And it's only part-time. But some job is better than no job, and so I do it. You know, I tried. I applied to Barnes and Noble, Structure, the Gap, and Electronics Boutique, as well as two or three temp agencies (thought maybe I could do a mailroom someplace). The temp people were great. They haven't found me a job yet, but they've been very kind. And honest. Not at all like BN, Structure and the Gap. It took Barnes and Noble two and a half weeks of my going in there to finally tell me they weren't hiring. It took Structure three and a half. The other places still won't admit it, but I can tell, based on my other experiences. Oh well. Happier entries to follow soon o_O...
