Love and Star Wars: Two Topics that COULD Be Related, but Are Not in this Particular Instance.

Ok, first, sorry all you peeps clamoring for more me (I'm just so irresistable). I don't yet have internet access at home, and so am doing this from the library.

Things with Q (not her real initial) failed. Oops. Perhaps the fact that she wouldn't take my calls was a sign... But before you go "D'uh! What a dipstick!" let me tell you that she was always like that, even when I didn't have any romantic interest in her (all that love at first sight stuff is bs. Don't listen to anyone who tells you it works like that. Lust at first sight, definitely, but not love). Ah well. Having had about two weeks to think about it, I feel fine. I don't feel scarred. Hurt, yes, but that goes with the territory. And although it will be difficult to find someone who captivated me as much as she did, I'm sure that will come in good time.

And now for something competely different...

I've seen Episode II twice now. What are they doing with these names?! Attack of the Clones?! Seriously now. I don't care how descriptive of the plot it is, it sounds like a really terrible C-movie from the fifties. As though (ominous voice) The Phantom Menace wasn't bad enough. And the character names, woof! Count DOOKU?! Really, Lucas, you couldn't've come up with something that didn't at the same time manage to sound like a Zelda ripoff AND fecal matter? [sigh] As for the movie...

I won't spoil anything for those of you who haven't seen it yet. More commentary on this will follow. But it didn't feel like a Star Wars movie. More like James-Bond-style-action-flick-meets-chick-flick-meets-teen-angst movie. It was galling, because there were things done very badly that would've been so easy to do well (like correct the wooden acting). Don't get me wrong, I do like it. Everything that happens on Kamino is v. cool. I liked that there was advertising in it (not plugging real companies; I hate that. Like, ads for companies or other things that exist in that world). And I like the way evil-bad-guy handily whips an experienced Jedi and his skilled Padawan, then gets schooled by a two-foot-tall cripple. (Theme alert: Don't judge by appearances. Although I do know a gay man who told me once "I find that most of the time, you CAN judge a book by its cover." But he was talking about something else. Sorry, I digress.) Overall, I like it better than Episode I. But it's a pity. It could have been much better. Other issues will come later; I can't talk about anything else without giving away too much. Except this one thing: before this movie, Boba Fett was cool. He was mysterious. He was a badass. Now, he's not. I've lost all respect for him. Ditto Darth. Also, Boba's not THAT important. Lucas, please focus on the story.

However, despite those things, there was just enough in it that was truly wonderful that I can say I did like this movie.

Job hunt continues. Hope someone will take me. I need to earn some dosh to help pay for school. Eh. Gotta go now. Will update soon. Farewell, my adoring public.
